ICYMI: Governor Whitmer Kicks Off G-S-D Tour Across Michigan
Tour will Highlight Bipartisan Accomplishments, State of the State Proposals to Build a Michigan for All
LANSING, Mich.-Yesterday, Governor Whitmer kicked off her statewide Get-Shit-Done Tour sharing the story of Michigan's progress over the past seven years, highlighting her State of the State proposals, and listening to Michiganders. The governor began the G-S-D Tour with over 20 interviews, talking to media from across Michigan about her priorities on literacy, housing, and healthcare heading into 2026.
"We are building a Michigan for All by delivering on the kitchen table issues that make a real difference in people's lives," said Governor Whitmer. "I'm excited to kick off my G-S-D Tour, talking about the work we've done to move Michigan forward over the past seven years and listening to Michiganders about the issues that matter most to them. Right now, families and businesses are dealing with high costs and economic uncertainty. I'll work with anyone to build more housing, help every child read, and protect access to quality, affordable health care. Let's keep getting stuff done for Michiganders."
Media Highlights
"Michigan is full of hardworking, good people who have a lot going on in their lives and maybe have not heard about all the things that we've accomplished or what is available," Whitmer said. "I think telling the story of what's out there, what we've accomplished and listening to Michiganders is what the GSD is all about."
"I think sometimes we forget to see the humanity in one another. We are all just ordinary people. I got an extraordinary role. I certainly have served under extraordinary circumstances, but I'm still a daughter, a mom, a wife. As I think about where we are as a state, I'm really proud of what we've been able to accomplish. But I'm also always very sober and impatient about what more I want to get done. That's what drives the work and that's why I love the state of Michigan, that's why I believe in state government, that's why I'm hopeful we can find common ground whether it's on housing or health care or literacy."
"It was an opportunity to reflect. I have worked at the state capitol for the better part of the last two and a half decades…Now giving my last one, it was a moment to take it all in, think about how far we've come, think about all the things I've had the opportunity to learn, and really immense gratitude to the people of Michigan for putting their trust in me and giving me the opportunity to lead these last eight years."
"I'm really in the business of G-S-D. We want to make sure this time is used productively, and that when I leave office I hand over Michigan to whomever comes after me in as strong a position as we can be in. That's the oath I took and that's what is going to drive every ounce of energy I spend these next ten months."
"My thing is having a cup of coffee with a Michigander I have never met before, and asking the question, 'what can I do to make your life better?' Having a beer or going to a bowling alley and hanging out with real people to make sure I'm focused on the things that matter. And sharing with people what's available, what we've done, what is out there…there's opportunity for everyone."
"If we focus on literacy, housing affordability, and health care affordability we're going to do a lot of good for all Michiganders. Whether you're Republican, Democrat, Independent, or someone who's not voted, these are the fundamentals everyone needs, and these should be places where everyone can find common ground…those are the three things I want to spend all my time on this year."
"I have opened up a dialogue with the legislature and I'm eager to find common ground wherever we can. I led with housing, health care, and literacy because they shouldn't be inherently partisan issues."
"I often find myself trying to remind people, listen I'm just an ordinary person. I've got an extraordinary role, and this has certainly been an extraordinary time to lead, but we've got to continue to try and find the humanity in one another too."
