CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that pavement patching to improve routes being used as detours for the Interstate 80 reconstruction project in Joliet and Rockdale will require intermittent daytime and overnight lane closures beginning, weather permitting, Monday, Nov. 9.

The work consists of patching, milling, resurfacing and pavement striping to keep the pavement in acceptable condition while the larger I-80 corridor improvement is under construction.

Repairs will take place on the following streets:

  • Larkin Avenue (Illinois 7) between Jefferson (U.S. 52) and McDonough streets
  • U.S. 6 between Brandon Road and McDonough Street
  • McDonough Street between Chicago Street (U.S. 52/Illinois 53) and U.S. 6
  • Laraway Road between Chicago and Briggs streets
  • Briggs Street between Spencer and Laraway roads

The work is anticipated to be completed by Thanksgiving.

The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
