NDOT to Begin Safety Project on Gallatin Pike

On Sunday, September 27, the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT) will begin work on the first phase of the Gallatin Pike and Main Street Safety Project.

The project consists of several safety improvements including enhanced pedestrian crossings, lighting and signal upgrades, and roadway markings. The project also includes the resurfacing of major portions of the corridor from South 5th Street to Briley Parkway.

Identified by Nashville's Vision Zero Action Plan's High Injury Network as one of the city's most dangerous roads, the project is an important step toward making Gallatin Pike safer and more walkable. It also lays the groundwork for the Choose How You Move Gallatin Pike All-Access Corridor project.

The first phase of the project consists of work on the entire corridor from South 5th Street to Briley Parkway. Over the next two months (weather dependent), certain lanes along the corridor will be closed for paving, striping, and repairs. Crews will work to maintain through traffic and minimize impacts, but people traveling along the route should expect some delays.

Work on the first phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of the year. As part of the second phase, NDOT will install pedestrian hybrid beacons (PHBs) to allow for mid-block pedestrian crossings at key locations along Gallatin Pike starting in early 2027, with the entire project expected to be completed by May 2027.
