On September 23, 2026, H.E. Mr. Zhang Maoming, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Nepal, and Hon. Mr. Mahabir Pun, Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation of Nepal, visited Chinese DNA and forensic identification experts working at the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) DNA lab.

Ambassador Zhang and Minister Pun have gained an in-depth insights into the forensic identification and DNA comparison work for the victims of the devastating mudslide-flood disaster on August 26, 2026, and engaged in friendly communications with the Chinese experts.

Minister Pun stated that following the devastating mudslide-flood disaster on August 26, the Chinese Government provided a large amount of aid materials including DNA testing equipment to the Nepali side. Chinese DNA and forensic identification experts rushed to Nepal urgently and fully devoted themselves to the DNA and forensic identification work. The Government of Nepal highly commends and sincerely appreciates the excellent work and special contributions of the Chinese experts at this difficult time.

At the request of the Government of Nepal, on September 1 and 3, the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China immediately dispatched 15 experts in DNA and forensic identification to Nepal to support the Nepali side in conducting post-disaster response operations.
