Grant program supports affordable housing and community development initiatives
The Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines (FHLB Des Moines or Bank) today announced $5.6 million in grant funding for more than 200 eligible not-for-profit and government organizations working to strengthen communities across Montana.
The funding was made possible through the Member Impact Fund, a matching grant program designed to amplify the community engagement of FHLB Des Moines member institutions. Through partnerships with local financial institutions, the program provides critical support for affordable housing and community development initiatives across the FHLB Des Moines district.
In Montana, 287 applications received funding through partnerships with 41 member institutions. FHLB Des Moines matched more than $2.40 for every $1 contributed by a member institution, resulting in $1.6 million from members and $4 million awarded by FHLB Des Moines.
Since its launch in 2023, the Member Impact Fund has provided more than $86 million in grants from FHLB Des Moines, generating over $119 million in combined support for affordable housing and community development. Notably, every eligible application submitted to the program has received funding, reflecting the Bank's strong commitment to partnership and impact.
"Our Member Impact Fund reflects the heart of our mission, working together to build vibrant communities by addressing local housing, business, and economic needs," said Kris Williams, president and chief executive officer of FHLB Des Moines. "By partnering with our members, we multiply the generosity of local financial institutions and deliver real, noticeable impact to families and communities across our district."
