MSU Extension-Macomb County offers lecture on ornamental grasses in the garden on June 30, 2026

Macomb County residents are invited to discover how ornamental grasses and sedges can enhance home landscapes with texture, movement, and year-round visual interest during a free educational program on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Led by MSU Extension educator David Lowenstein, Ph.D., this informative session will explore the advantages of using turf alternatives and highlight low-maintenance plant options that can help diversify and strengthen your landscape. Participants will gain practical knowledge on plant selection, installation, and ongoing care.

Weather permitting, the program will also include a guided outdoor tour of the MSU Extension-Macomb ornamental grasses and sedges garden, offering a firsthand look at these plants.

As an added bonus, a limited number of free ornamental grass plugs will be available for attendees to take home. Feedback from post-class surveys highlight the program's impact, with one participant sharing that they "have left encouraged that I can grow these plants at my home and use less water in my garden."

Preregistration is required. For more information and to register, visit: https://pears.io/events/msuext/5708/.

This program is offered at no cost and is supported by the Crop Protection and Pest Management Program [grant no. 2024-70006-43569] through the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture.

David Lowenstein, Ph.D., is a consumer horticulture extension educator based out of Clinton Township, Michigan.
