Today is World Sustainable Procurement Day, a worldwide event bringing together procurement professionals and partners to advance sustainable sourcing and value chains. The City's commitment to responsible purchasing-supporting environmental stewardship, social equity and economic growth-is reflected in the recent launch of a new, more secure system for businesses to register, bid and contract. The updated process makes it easier for new and returning suppliers to take full advantage of contracting opportunities with Portland and beyond.

To help businesses navigate the new system, Procurement Services is offering hands-on, in-person work sessions that provide one-on-one support for registration, bidding and contracting processes. Businesses that have worked with the City-even very recently-should double-check their registration status to ensure they receive important updates in the new system.

Procurement Services is also enhancing its website to make it simpler and more intuitive for businesses to work with the City of Portland.

"These updates are designed to make it easier-and safer-for local businesses to do business with the City while ensuring transparency, efficiency and accountability," said Sylvester Donelson, Chief Procurement Officer.

By partnering with local suppliers, Procurement Services helps reinvest public funds directly into the community, supporting local jobs and economic growth. From ball fields to benches, paving to pressure valves, signs to shrubs-almost everything the City procures relies on the participation of local businesses.

"Our goal is to help local businesses succeed," Donelson added. "Supporting suppliers as they navigate the City's procurement process allows them to grow and strengthen our community through workforce and economic opportunities."
