WASHINGTON (March 27, 2026) - National Sorghum Producers today welcomed the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's final Renewable Fuel Standard volumes for 2026 and 2027, thanking President Trump, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin and U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins for advancing strong biofuel targets that support American agriculture and energy production.
The announcement, made during a White House event recognizing America's farmers attended by more than 25 sorghum farmers as part of an NSP fly-in, underscores the administration's focus on expanding markets for U.S. agriculture.
The final rule sets robust Renewable Volume Obligations, including record-setting levels for biomass-based diesel and maintaining 15 billion gallons for conventional ethanol, reinforcing long-term demand for U.S.-grown feedstocks.
"We appreciate President Trump, Administrator Zeldin and Secretary Rollins for delivering strong RVO volumes and doing so in a way that recognizes the importance of American farmers," said NSP Chair Amy France, a farmer from Scott City, Kan. "These volumes provide critical certainty for sorghum producers and help strengthen demand across the biofuels sector."
NSP also highlighted EPA's decision to reallocate 70 percent of previously exempted volumes, helping ensure that promised demand is realized.
"Maintaining the integrity of the Renewable Fuel Standard is essential," France said. "Reallocating those gallons helps protect the market opportunities farmers depend on."
NSP emphasized that the announcement builds on recent actions to support biofuel demand, including the administration's E15 summertime waiver.
"E15 expansion is a win for farmers and consumers," France said. "We need to build on this momentum and get year-round E15 across the finish line."
NSP noted the rule aligns with priorities shared across the biofuels industry to strengthen domestic production and expand demand.
"These volumes are a meaningful step forward for rural America," said NSP CEO Tim Lust. "Stronger biofuel targets support farmers, expand domestic energy production and create new opportunities for sorghum in growing markets like sustainable aviation fuel and maritime fuel."
