New generation of agronomists commence Elders graduate program

Delivered as a two year, entry level pathway, the Elders Graduate Agronomy Program gives graduates hands on experience across both horticulture and broadacre production systems, while also building a strong understanding of the commercial and operational side of agribusiness.

This year's cohort of nine graduates recently came together in Adelaide for a three day induction, marking the start of their careers with Elders. The induction helped set the foundations for their transition into branch based roles, with a focus on building capability, confidence and connections across Elders' national agronomy network.

Graduate Agronomist Lina Miller said Elders' strong presence in regional Australia and its commitment to development were key drawcards.

"I was drawn to Elders because of its strong reputation in regional communities and the opportunity to learn from experienced agronomists," Ms Miller said.

"The graduate program stood out for its structured development, practical exposure and clear pathway into a long term agronomy career. I was looking for a program that would challenge me while also providing strong mentorship, and Elders felt like the right fit."

Now in its tenth year, the Graduate Agronomy Program continues to contribute to building future capability across the business, with more than 10 per cent of Elders' current agronomy workforce having progressed through the program.

Elders Chief Agronomist Alex Greetham said the program was designed to develop well rounded agronomists with both technical and commercial expertise.

"Good agronomy comes down to strong knowledge and the right people," Mr Greetham said.

"The Elders Graduate Agronomy Program is about building the practical and commercial skills of the next generation, so they can continue supporting Australian growers into the future."

Graduates are supported to work alongside experienced agronomists and gain exposure to Elders' strong research and development focus, including a national network of trial sites that allows early career agronomists to be involved in projects shaping the future of the industry.
