Poland joins Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia

24.07.2026

Poland formally acceded to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC). Minister of State Assets Wojciech Balczun deposited the instrument of accession on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs on 24 July.

Poland signed the TAC alongside Lithuania, Romania, and Sweden, raising the number of its contracting parties to 62. Representatives of the joining member states signed the instruments of accession to the TAC at the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Manila. The ceremony was attended by Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines Theresa Lazaro and Secretary-General of ASEAN Kao Kim Hourn. A High-Level Conference of High Contracting Parties to the TAC was convened on the same day to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Treaty.

Poland's accession reinforces our presence in the Indo-Pacific. It is also aligned with the EU strategy for the region and opens new opportunities for cooperation with the ASEAN countries, especially for economic and sectoral cooperation. Joining the TAC contributes to diversifying the Polish foreign policy and developing ties with countries of growing importance to global economy and security.
