The European Union is introducing a new Entry/Exit System (EES), which will become operational on 12 October 2025.

The system is designed to strengthen the control of the Schengen Area's external borders, enhance security, and simplify procedures for travelers from non-EU countries.

What Armenian Citizens Need to Know

  • To whom it applies - The new system applies to all non-EU/Schengen country nationals, including citizens of the Republic of Armenia.
  • What changes- At border crossing points, EU and Schengen countries will register each entry and exit electronically, replacing the current practice of passport stamping.
  • Data to be collected

- Personal data (name, surname, nationality, etc.),

- Travel document details,

- Date and place of entry and exit,

- Biometric data - fingerprints and facial image.

  • Monitoring of validity- The system will automatically verify whether the traveler is allowed to enter and whether the "90 days in any 180-day period" short-stay rule has been respected.
  • Where it applies- The system will be operational at all external border crossing points, including airports, seaports, and land border checkpoints.
  • How to prepare- Travelers should be ready to provide biometric data (fingerprints, photo) and to expect longer processing times at border checks, particularly upon their first entry.

The EES is part of the EU's large-scale digital border management system, aimed at increasing transparency and security in migration processes. Detailed information about the system is available at the following link:
