City to Activate Orange Flag Cooling Center Tonight

The City of Greensboro will activate an Orange Flag cooling center tonight in response to the extreme heat.

Operated by Greensboro Community Safety Department staff, the Orange Flag cooling center will be open 7 pm, Monday, June 22, to 7 am, Tuesday, June 23, at the Interactive Resource Center, 407 E. Washington St. It is available to single adults and families.

Activation of the Orange Flag occurs on days when the forecast daytime temperatures and/or heat index are 90 degrees or higher, and overnight temperatures are not expected to fall below 70 degrees.

Please note the daytime cooling stations and hydration station in Greensboro operate regardless of the Orange Flag status during the summer months. For more information on initiatives put in place to support the Greensboro community during extreme heat, visit www.Greensboro-nc.gov/CoolingCenters.
