Lowell is proud to be a home to arts, culture, and history. During the month of October, local organizations produce events honoring the role film and literature play in the city's history and present. The month is bookended by two literary festivals, with two film festivals occurring on October 17 & 18.
Lowell Celebrates Kerouac

The Lowell Celebrates Kerouac Festival will feature tours of Kerouac landmarks, open mic events, book discussions, and more. Bring your own prose to read while accompanied by David Amram and friends, or attend the keynote lecture with Hassan Melehy , a Kerouac scholar.
Lowell Asian American Film Festival

Lowell Asian American Film Festival showcases Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) filmmakers through two days of short films. For the last four years, the festival has highlighted the rich stories of Asian American experiences from across the country. The festival seeks to inspire the next generation of filmmakers and dismantle barriers to films.
El Encuentro Film Festival

El Encuentro brings together the best of Latino storytelling, incredible filmmakers, and an audience ready to honor the heritage, the diversity, and the voices that make up the Latino experience. Over 20 short films will be showcased, from all genres over the course of two days.
Poe in Lowell

Through literary events, discussion panels, pop up shops, exhibits, and a movie screening, the festival celebrates Edgar Allan Poe's three visits to Lowell. From the casual reader to a certified expert, all fan of Poe's work will find enjoyment at the festival.
