Focus on endodontic workflow: the new Reciproc® Minima file system and the X-Smart Go cordless Endo motor from Dentsply Sirona

Dentsply Sirona expands its endodontics portfolio: The Reciproc® Minima file system was developed specifically for narrow and challenging root canal shapes and expands the treatment options using a one file endo approach. The new X-Smart Go Endo motor is now available to complement this system and all other file systems from Dentsply Sirona: cordless for uncompromising mobility.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. The launch of the first reciprocating file by VDW, a brand of Dentsply Sirona, has fundamentally transformed endodontics. Dentsply Sirona is continuing this tradition of innovation by combining high-quality files, instruments, and endo motors into a coordinated system for a streamlined workflow. The portfolio now includes two new product solutions whose features and benefits deliver immediate value in everyday endodontic practice.

Sleek for challenging cases

Reciproc® Minima builds on the Reciproc® tradition of one-file endodontics and supports streamlined endodontic workflows. Thanks to its new file design, it enables the preparation of a broader range of root canal anatomies without the need for scouting or glide path preparation. Reciproc® has been supported by more than 650 scientific studies[1], including a clinical study of 14,233 endodontically treated teeth with 5-10 year follow-up, in which the protocol using Reciproc® achieved 30-40% higher tooth survival rates compared to the other protocols.[2] With this extensive body of evidence, Reciproc® is the most researched and evidence-based endodontic file system available today. Reciproc® Blue, a heat-treated file solution designed to enhance flexibility and resistance to cyclic fatigue, has been introduced in 2016.

Reciproc® Minima features the same blue heat treatment as Reciproc® Blue and the typical Reciproc® S-shaped cross-section. Compared to the existing Reciproc® product family, it offers a thinner wire with a maximum flute diameter of 0.77 mm, a reduced shaft of 9.5 mm for improved accessibility, and is available in sizes R20, R25, R35, and R45, as well as in lengths of 21 mm, 25 mm, and 31 mm. The file solution comes with matching paper points and ConformFit gutta-percha points.

The S-shaped special design cross-section ensures smooth cutting and ensures efficient preparation, saving time compared to other methods. The system is also quick and easy to learn, resulting in a reduction of potential errors compared to rotary NiTi systems[3]. All files received the post grinding heat-treatment, for greater flexibility and fatigue resistance, compared to non-heat-treated instruments.[4]The material characteristics enhance the flexibility and resistance to unwinding or fracture of Reciproc® Minima instruments, allowing proper negotiation of narrow and challenging canals.

Dr. Marc Habib, a renowned endodontics specialist from Lebanon, already had the chance to test the new file in practice: "I am familiar with reciprocating files and have experienced the high efficiency of Reciproc® Minima in very narrow canals firsthand. The properties of the file really pay off."

For greater efficiency in endodontic procedures

The cordless Endo motor X-Smart Go was developed specifically to maximize the performance of Dentsply Sirona files- in both continuous rotation and reciprocating motion. It has a high torque of up to 6 Ncm and a wide speed range of 50-2,500 rpm. The integrated apex locator provides confidence when determining length during shaping. The included high-capacity battery ensures high performance in everyday practice for up to 3 days of use[5] . The endo motor is therefore instantly ready. Its mobility makes it easy to transfer between rooms within the practice.

The integrated apex locator provides length determination while shaping, in both continuous rotation and reciprocating movements and thus simplifies the shaping procedure. The new wireless endo motor has already won over its first users: "In my practice, endo treatments take place in different operating rooms, so the added mobility is a great asset to my team. The treatment setup is quickly available-even for the next procedure," says Dr. Reid Pullen, DDS, FAGD from Brea, CA (USA).

"Both new product solutions demonstrate how innovation and clinical benefits go hand in hand at Dentsply Sirona," says Arjan de Roy, Group Vice President of Endodontics at Dentsply Sirona. "The Reciproc® Minima file system enables dentists to prepare even challenging canals with confidence. They are supported in this by the X-Smart Go cordless Endo motor, which gives them plenty of freedom and mobility without compromise."

Dentsply Sirona emphasizes with the launch of the endo file system Reciproc® Minima and the endo motor X-Smart Go its commitment to being a trusted partner to clinicians worldwide through evidence-based endodontic solutions, meticulous quality standards, and a longstanding tradition of pioneering innovation.
