The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that upgrades and installations of Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) will be performed on I-84 & I-384 in Hartford, East Hartford, Manchester, South Windsor, Vernon and Tolland. This project is scheduled to occur starting on Monday, October 13, 2025, and be completed on Monday, April 19, 2027.
The project 0042-0330 consists of replacing cameras and communication equipment in the Hartford area with modern equipment on taller camera poles with camera lowering devices on I-84 east of Hartford and expand coverage on to Exit 69 and on I-384 to Exit 4. The project will install new trunkline fiber optic in a spare innerduct to I-84 at Exit 65 in Vernon. New trunkline fiber optic and new 4-inch multicell conduit will be installed between I-84 at Exit 65 in Vernon and I-84 at Exit 69 in Tolland. Along I-384 new trunkline fiber optic and 4-inch multicell conduit will be installed. The project will install 41 new cameras, which include 15 new locations. Seven VMS signs will be receiving new fiber optic cable, 4 using existing conduits and 3 will be connected through new branch fiber and conduits.

CTDOT Project No. 0042-0330 was awarded to Ducci Electrical Contractors Inc. at a cost of $18,647,000.00 on April 22, 2025, and is scheduled to be completed April 19, 2027. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 1 in Rocky Hill.
LANE CLOSURE/DETOUR INFO
There will be shoulder and ramp closures (advance notice will be given) on I-84 and I-384 from Monday, October 13, 2025, to Monday, April 19, 2027, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Traffic control signing patterns, crash trucks, arrow boards and State Troopers as needed will guide motorists through the work zone.
Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.
