AUC Chairperson received the Minister of Defence of the Republic of The Gambia

H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, this morning received H.E Baboucarr Oumaila Joof, Minister of Defence of the Republic of The #Gambia, at AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa.

The Chairperson welcomed the Minister's visit, noting the importance of continued engagement on matters of peace, security & stability in The Gambia & the wider West African region. The discussions included the Commission's support to The Gambia in its contribution to regional peace & stability.

The Chairperson & the Minister exchanged views on the evolving political & security situation in West Africa, with particular attention to the Sahel & Casamance region. They underscored the importance of peaceful political processes, constitutional governance, & sustained regional efforts to address shared security challenges.

The Chairperson reaffirmed the Commission's continued engagement with The Gambia & its commitment to advancing peace, stability & democratic governance across Continent.

Minister Oumaila Joof was accompanied by H.E. Amb. Jainaba Jagne, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of The Gambia to the AU.
