Cambridge to Increase Fines for Expired Meter and Overtime Parking Violations Beginning February 1

Effective February 1, 2026, the City of Cambridge will increase the fines associated with expired meter and overtime parking tickets. The fine for each violation will go from $30 to $40.

The Cambridge Department of Transportation revisits the cost of parking violations regularly to ensure they reinforce positive parking behavior. Enforcing meters and time limit restrictions ensures that we have turnover in our parking spaces, supporting businesses and providing parking for as many residents and visitors as possible. The increase in fine revenue from this change will also support the important work the City is undertaking to make Cambridge's streets safer and plan for the transportation challenges we will face in coming years.

The City of Cambridge last increased fines for these violations in 2019, from $25 to $30. In addition to supporting our transportation and parking policies, the price increase will bring us in line with fines for these violations in Boston and still below the fine amounts in Somerville.
