European Union and Government of Sierra Leone Launch 2025 Bus Tour – Celebrating Partnership, Growth, and People

The tour was launched by the European Union Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Jacek Jankowski and the Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED), Rev. Dr. Jonathan Titus-Williams, in the distinguish presence of other Government officials and representatives from Germany and Ireland in Sierra Leone at Tower Hill in Freetown.

This dynamic two-week journey, with the first leg starting from 29th September to 3rd October 2025, will traverse all regions of the country, starting in Kambia reaching Tonkolili, Kono and Kenema, while the second leg will kick-off from 1st to 5th December 2025, showcasing transformative development projects that are driving opportunities, connectivity, and prosperity for all Sierra Leoneans.

"This is more than just a bus tour-it's the testimony to our shared commitment to Sierra Leone's future. Through Team Europe, we are investing in people and the planet, guided by the Global Gateway strategy," said EU Ambassador Jankowski.

Delivery a keynote address at the launch event, the Hon. Rev. Dr. Jonathan Titus-Williams, Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development said,

"H.E Brig. Rtd. President Julius Maada Bio attaches great value to the strong and enduring partnership between Sierra Leone and the European Union," noting, "The Bus tour is more than a symbolic ride, it is a journey of engagement bringing development closer to the people, raising awareness and showcasing EU-supported projects that continue to make a real difference in communities across the country."

The Global Gateway, the EU's flagship investment strategy, is at the heart of this initiative. It focuses on building sustainable infrastructure in transport, energy, and digital sectors, while also strengthening education.

The tour will highlight how these investments are being realized across Sierra Leone, including:

  • Infrastructure Development: Construction/Rehabilitating roads and bridges to connect communities and markets, and expand access to clean energy.

  • Sustainable Agriculture: Supporting the government's "Feed Salone" priority by empowering women in agriculture and strengthening food supply chains.

  • Youth Empowerment: Providing vocational training and skills development to equip young Sierra Leoneans for a productive future.

The EU Bus Tour 2025 brings the European Union and its Member States closer to the people, reinforcing a shared vision for a green, inclusive, and prosperous Sierra Leone.
