Accessory Dwelling Unit Workshop Set for May 13

The City's Planning Department will host a workshop covering the basics of Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU). Interested residents, homeowners, and builders may attend the workshop from 4-6 pm on Wednesday, May 13, at McGirt-Horton Branch Library, 2501 Phillips Ave.

Accessory Dwelling Units are smaller, secondary housing units located on the same property as a primary residence. It may be attached or detached from the primary property and provides homeowners with flexible living options.

The workshop will feature presentations by City staff and a panel of homeowners and builders with recent experience building an ADU. Topics to be covered include:

  • building codes and the permitting process,

  • different ADU types and design options, and

  • other tips, benefits, and financing considerations.

ADUs can support multigenerational households, create opportunities for rental income, and introduce neighborhood-friendly, gentle housing density. Learn more about ADUs at www.greensboro-nc.gov/ADUs.
