The City of Cedar Rapids and the City Music Task Force are bringing Make Music Day to Cedar Rapids for the first time as a citywide celebration June 21.
Make Music Cedar Rapids is part of the global Make Music Day holiday, which takes place in more than 1,000 cities worldwide. Musicians and non-musicians of all ages and experience levels are invited to perform in parks, on porches, inside local businesses, and throughout downtown and neighborhood districts.
All performances are free and open to the public. There are no tickets, no central stage, and no headliners; instead, the celebration simply features live music happening everywhere.
Coordinated by the City in partnership with the City Music Task Force and local organizations, the event lowers barriers to participation, supports local musicians, and makes live music visible and accessible across the community.
Anyone can perform, and anyone can host. Musicians of all ages and experience levels can sign up to play, and businesses, organizations, and residents can offer a space for performances. Spaces currently available include:
• Stack Wellness Café, 223 2nd St SE
• Cedar Rapids Public Library, 450 5th Ave SE
• Kingston Yard, 145 3rd Street SW
• The Ideal Theater & Bar, 213 16th Ave SE
• Mays Island
Whether you are a performer, a potential host, or simply looking to explore what's happening across the city, you can learn more and get involved here.
