"When I got to Washington this week, my first order of business was to send a letter to the Speaker urging him to pass the Senate DHS bill, and I'm pleased that he has heeded my call. The nation is looking for leadership, and we have no more important duty than ensuring the safety and security of our homeland. I'm thankful we can finally put this ordeal behind us, but this record-breaking shutdown is a stain on our institution and as I have maintained throughout my tenure, government shutdowns are wrong. I'm grateful to the more than 260,000 men and women of the department who have maintained their professionalism and dedication to the American people. Now, we must move our attention to the reconciliation process where we will ensure our immigration enforcement is fully funded and operational. The American people deserve less score-keeping and political theatrics and more results."
