In celebration of Global Accessibility Awareness Day today, HBO Max announced that HBO Original drama series HOUSE OF THE DRAGON will be available to stream in American Sign Language (ASL). Season one with ASL will debut on May 29, followed by season two on June 15. Season three with ASL will premiere alongside new episodes of the series each week in the US and EMEA, beginning with the season debut on SUNDAY, JUNE 21 at 9:00 p.m. ET.
Season one of HOUSE OF THE DRAGON with ASL is performed by ASL dubber Landen Gonzales (Deaf West Theatre's "American Idiot"), and season two by Sophia Morales ("Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" with ASL, "Minecraft" with ASL). Gonzales and Morales will both perform ASL for the upcoming third season, with Justin Jackerson ("Wuthering Heights" with ASL) serving as Director of ASL across all seasons.
This debut expands HBO Max's ASL collection, which began with "Barbie" with ASL in 2023. The full collection will be prominently featured on the homepage today in honor of Global Accessibility Awareness Day. "With ASL" titles are displayed on the HBO Max app as a separate title with key art featuring the sign language symbol.
HBO Max's award-winning accessibility efforts have pioneered multiple streaming industry firsts and continue to expand access for Deaf and ASL-signing audiences, as nearly 7 million adults in the U.S. use sign language1. "The Last of Us" was the first series to debut in ASL alongside the season premiere, and "Sinners" marked another milestone as the first film to premiere exclusively in Black American Sign Language (BASL). Since "Barbie" with ASL debuted in December 2023, the film has been streamed for more than 9 million hours, showcasing the demand for content that is accessible and inclusive. HBO Max also offers features such as audio descriptions, closed captions, screen reader compatibility, magnification, keyboard navigation, and color contrast to ensure an accessible streaming experience across audiences.
