SEAL to Sponsor Fourth Annual Washington and Lee Campus-Wide Garage Sale

The Student Environmental Action League (SEAL) will host a campus-wide garage sale from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, on Cannan Green. Purchases are open to all members of the Lexington community, and any unpurchased articles of clothing will be donated to Goodwill, while unsold furniture will be donated to Habitat for Humanity's ReStore. Goodwill will be partnering directly with SEAL this year and will provide large collection bins for any clothes that go unsold or that are donated.

The garage sale is free for members of the Lexington community to attend. Complimentary gelato from Pronto will be provided for anyone who participates in selling, purchasing or donating during the event, courtesy of SEA, the Office of Sustainability, Student Activities and the Environmental Studies Program. Any individuals who purchase items at the Lexington Farmers Market that morning will also be given free Pronto gelato, as the market partnered with SEAL to promote the event and encourage the community to attend.

Sellers will be charged a $5 fee to reserve their spot on Canaan Green and will retain 100% of the profit they receive from their sales. Any unsettled funds will be donated to Boxerwood, a nonprofit organization that provides all age groups in the local Rockbridge area with environmentally focused educational programs. Last year, SEAL donated approximately $150 to Boxerwood following the garage sale.

Members of the W&L community who are planning on selling items must fill out a sign-up form prior to the day of the event. Students studying abroad may still participate upon completion of the form. Groups wishing to sell items must ensure that the name of each seller is included in the form. This year, SEAL has added group tabling to help encourage Greek life and other student organizations to attend.
