UNESCO presents the educational game ‘African Diaspora’ in Cuba to promote new ways of teaching African history

UNESCO has been working for decades to integrate the General History of Africa into education systems through curricula, teaching methods and teacher training. The game 'African Diaspora' adds to these efforts, specifically by helping students and teachers connect with this history, with a focus on inclusion and critical thinking.

Its development took more than a year and included documentary research, consultations with specialists from Cuba, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic, and workshops in the region. The University of Havana coordinated the validation of content and pedagogical approach.

The African Diaspora game is part of a series of publications and tools that UNESCO has made available to promote a new narrative about Africa and its diaspora and to facilitate its integration into education systems. These resources include the guide Mainstreaming the General History of Africa into education systems: the curriculum pathway (2025), volumes IX and X of the General History of Africa, and the video game African Heroes.
