President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Ms Abramova, you were born in Udmurtia, have worked there practically your entire life, correct?
Olga Abramova Abramova OlgaActing Head of the Republic of Udmurtia : Yes, I grew up and built my career there.
Vladimir Putin: You have risen to the position of de facto head of [regional] government.
Olga Abramova: Yes.
Vladimir Putin: How would you assess the current situation in the region?
Olga Abramova: I believe Udmurtia has laid a very solid foundation for development. Active projects are currently underway in road construction, housing and utilities, and the social sector. Therefore, I believe the region's development outlook is very promising indeed.
Furthermore, the economy continues to grow. The focus on small and medium-sized businesses nine years ago was the right decision, as this category has shown the greatest growth. At the same time, industry (Udmurtia is an industrial region) is also showing significant growth, so we have a balanced picture here. But, of course, there is always room for improvement.
Vladimir Putin: The current leader has done a great deal in recent years to develop the regional economy. The defence industry plays a large role too, as we know well.
Do you feel ready to take the next steps building on the foundation that has already been created?
Olga Abramova: Yes, for me this is certainly a great challenge, a serious one, and a huge responsibility. In that sense, I am grateful that you see such potential in me. That means a great deal to me.
And, of course, the team that has already been formed in Udmurtia, and what has been accomplished, will undoubtedly allow us to move forward smoothly.
Vladimir Putin: You were a local council member, and you have worked in joint-stock companies and in various government agencies. You have solid experience, you know the situation and you know the people. This is your small motherland. I wish you every success.
Olga Abramova: Thank you very much, Mr President.
