Three University of Toledo professors have been named among the world's most influential researchers, according to the data analytics firm Clarivate.
Dr. Yanfa Yan, a Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, has retained his position among Clarivate's Highly Cited Researchers since 2019. Dr. Jon Elhai, a Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Psychology, has been named a Highly Cited Researcher each year since 2021.
Dr. Jon Elhai of the Department of Psychology and Dr. Zhaoning Song and Dr. Yanfa Yan and of the Department of Physics and Astronomy are listed among the data analytics firm Clarivate's 2025 Highly Cited Researchers.
Dr. Zhaoning Song, an assistant professor of Department of Physics and Astronomy, joins Yan and Elhai for the first time in 2025.
The Highly Cited Researcher distinction recognizes a scientist's significant and broad influence in their field research. Elhai studies cyberpsychology and internet addictions. Yan and Song collaborate on industry-leading research into perovskite solar cells.
Highly Cited Researchers are more specifically identified as those who have authored multiple articles that rank in the top 1% by citations for their field and publication year, as tracked in Clarivate's Web of Science Core Collection citation index. Additional quantitative metrics, qualitative analysis and expert judgment are also considered.
Clarivate recognized 6,868 Highly Cited Researchers around the world in 2025.
