Sept. 16, 2025 - A $15 million donation this year from Publix Super Markets Charities (PSMC) brought its total investment to help end hunger to over $78 million since 2015. The donations are helping more than 400 local food banks and other nonprofit organizations, including Feeding America® partner food banks.
A portion of those funds went to help 40 Feeding America partner food banks in Publix's eight-state operating area fund one-time efforts, including vehicle purchases and other capital improvements.
"For these one-time efforts, we collaborated with our food bank partners to identify where our support can have the greatest impact," said Publix Charities Executive Director John Doran. "Whether it's a new vehicle that can better serve clients in their communities or a capital improvement to help for many years to come at their facility, it's important that our contributions strengthen their ability to help more people."
How Publix Charities contributions have helped food banks
Efforts coordinated by food banks include acquiring vehicles, such as box trucks, 53-foot trailers and sprinter vans, and other capital improvements like buying new kitchen and warehouse equipment, remodels of existing facilities, and new construction.
The Atlanta Community Food Bank operates four community food centers, which are direct-to-families food pantries that are spread across the region to improve access to fresh produce and other perishables. PSMC helped to fund these facilities that have opened over the years.
"Publix Charities has worked alongside us in a number of ways," said Atlanta Community Food Bank Director of Institutional Giving Greg Sims. "One way is by providing funds to purchase trucks that support 1,500 mobile pantries annually, and another is through being a founding donor for each of our four community food centers that provide up to 2 million pounds of food each year. Each center allows us to increase access to underserved communities."
At the Broward Partnership in South Florida, PSMC's donations help sustain the organization's food services program, which provides three balanced meals for approximately 500 people each day.
"Publix Charities has been a steadfast supporter of Broward Partnership since 2012, helping us nourish hope for individuals and families experiencing homelessness across Broward County," said Broward Partnership Chief Development Officer Lorraine Shim. "This valued partnership allows us to deliver more than 18,000 meals annually at our North and Central Homeless Assistance Centers, along with residents in our permanent supportive housing."
