Flags at Half Staff Nov. 5 by order of Gov. Brian Kemp

University Communications Wednesday November 5, 2025

By Executive Order of Governor Brian Kemp: flags on all state buildings and grounds ordered lowered to half-staff

WHEREAS: Richard "Dick" Bruce Cheney, 46th Vice President of the United States of America, passed away on November 3, 2025; and

Vice President Cheney began his political career in 1969 and devoted his life to public service; and

In addition to serving as Vice President from 2001-2009, Vice President Cheney also served as the U.S. Secretary of Defense from 1989-1993, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1979-1989, White House Chief of Staff from 1975-1977, and White House Deputy Chief of Staff from 1974-1975; and

It is fitting and proper to remember and honor Vice President Cheney's service to the United States of America by lowering flags throughout Georgia to half-staff.

NOW, THEREFORE, IN HONOR OF AND AS A MARK OF RESPECT FOR THE MEMORY OF THE HONORABLE RICHARD "DICK" BRUCE CHENEY, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY

ORDERED: That the flag of the United States and the flag of the State of Georgia shall be flown at half-staff on all state buildings and grounds from this date until sunset on the day of his interment.
