(Hagåtña, Guam) - Delegate James C. Moylan issued the following statement today expressing his deep condolences over the passing of Guam Police Department (GPD) Chief Stephen C. Ignacio:
"Today, our island family has lost an extraordinary leader, a dedicated law enforcer, and a truly humble public servant. I join Governor Lou Leon Guerrero, Acting Governor Josh Tenorio, and the entire community of Guam in mourning the passing of Police Chief Stephen C. Ignacio.
For over 30 years, Chief Ignacio wore his badge with immense pride, integrity, and a profound sense of duty. His unwavering commitment to the safety of our families and the protection of our villages was evident in everything he did. He did not seek the spotlight; instead, he led by example, earning the deep respect of both the community he served and the officers he mentored.
It was an honor and a privilege to work closely with Chief Ignacio on many projects over the years, most recently to secure nearly one million dollars for a new GPD patrol vehicle fleet. The Chief was always focused on ensuring his officers had the resources and support they needed to keep Guam safe.
To Chief Ignacio's children, grandchildren, extended family, and loved ones, I offer my prayers and most heartfelt condolences during this painful time. May you find comfort in knowing that his lifetime of service left an indelible mark on our island. Guam is safer and stronger because of his leadership.
I also extend my support and prayers to the men and women of the Guam Police Department as they face the loss of their leader and brother in uniform."
