When a person receives a breast cancer diagnosis, the road ahead can feel overwhelming. Navigating appointments, treatment options, and support programs can quickly become a full-time job. It's one that many patients are not prepared to take on alone. That is why Kimberly Cobb, BSN, RN, OCN, a Nurse Navigator in the Breast Oncology Programat Fox Chase Cancer Center-Buckingham, has made it her mission to ensure no patient has to walk that path alone.
This dedication recently earned Cobb the Main St. Earth Angel Award from the non-profit Main St., a Bucks County organization committed to supporting breast cancer patients in treatment, recovery and beyond.
A Decade of Dedication
For nearly a decade, Cobb has been a cornerstone of Fox Chase's breast cancer team. Often the first person patients meet after a diagnosis, she helps them navigate the sometimes-confusing landscape of care. From coordinating appointments across providers to connecting patients with essential support programs like Unite for HER and the Kin Wellness and Support Center, Cobb ensures that every patient has the guidance and reassurance they need.
She also invests time in education, offering lectures and one-on-one discussions to make sure patients understand their diagnosis and treatment plan. "I think one of the most important things I can do is make sure patients never feel like just a number," Cobb said. "I want them to know that they're cared for as people, not just for their disease."
Recognition That Resonates
The Earth Angel Award honors healthcare professionals who go above and beyond to provide compassionate, personalized care. Cobb was nominated by Allison Aggon, DO, FACOS, Associate Professor in Fox Chase's Department of Surgical Oncology, who has witnessed her dedication firsthand.
"It means a lot to me for two reasons," Cobb said of the award. "One, Main St. does so much for the local community. And two, being nominated by a colleague I work closely with every day makes it even more special. It shows that the work I do really makes a difference."
Cobb is part of a legacy of Fox Chase staff recognized for their patient-centered approach, including previous Earth Angel honorees like Aggon and Shelly Hayes, MD, Associate Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncologyand Director of the Fox Chase-Buckingham campus. "It's a reflection of our partnership with patients and the community," Cobb said. "It demonstrates how dedicated our staff is, every day, to providing care that goes beyond treating a disease."
Main St.: Rooted in Community
Main St. has a deeply local mission of raising awareness and funds that directly benefit breast cancer patients in Bucks County. Unlike many national organizations, Main St. ensures that the dollars raised remain in the community, helping neighbors, families, and friends through some of their most difficult moments.
To date, the organization has:
Main St. also partners with businesses and community groups across Bucks County, embedding itself in towns such as New Hope, Carversville, Peddler's Village, Doylestown, Perkasie, Newtown, Yardley, Dublin and Shop at Valley Square. These partnerships not only fuel fundraising efforts but also keep patients connected to a strong network of local support.
By honoring professionals like Cobb, Main St. reinforces its mission by celebrating those who combine clinical expertise with compassion and reminding patients that their community stands with them every step of the way.
Healthcare With a Personal Touch
For Cobb, the award represents a personal milestone but is also a message of reassurance to her patients. "Especially since COVID, people sometimes feel like healthcare has lost its personal touch," she said. "Awards like this show patients that the people caring for them are truly committed, not only to their medical needs but also to their overall well-being."
As she reflects on nearly a decade of service, Cobb hopes her work continues to make a difference by reminding every patient that they matter.
