Temperatures are cooling down, but many households will have to think twice before cranking up their home heaters this year.
According to Local 12, many Cincinnati households use oil furnaces to stay warm in the winter - and the conflict in Iran is continuing to push oil costs even higher.
Local 12 brought in University of Cincinnati economics expert David Brasington for insight on just how high prices are expected to jump. Brasington, economics professor at UC's Lindner College of Business, advised families to prepare for "about a 30% jump over normal rates" for oil.
Brasington said that the price increase can put strain on families where money is already tight.
"Instead of putting up the heat higher, you wear sweaters instead," Brasington told Local 12. "Bundle up, and keep the house temperatures kind of low. Any other things that people can do to cut back."
