Zipmobile repair update June 17

Posted on Jun 17, 2026 in Highways News, Main, News

HONOLULU - The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) is updating highway users on the status of the Zipmobile that was stalled on the H-1 Pearl City Viaduct between the Lehua Avenue underpass and the former Sears Distribution Center Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

As announced earlier this morning, 10 of the 12 lug nuts on the main wheel of the Zipmobile sheared as the Zipmobile was opening the lane. The machine was stopped as a precaution and mechanics have replaced six of the broken studs. The driver will move the Zipmobile back to the Zip Hale and will use one of the other Zipmobiles to close the Zipper Lane prior to the start of the afternoon peak westbound traffic. A final update will be issued when the Zipper Lane is confirmed closed.

The Zipper Lane will be in operation tomorrow.
