SMHS Student Received Award

Tessa Fabiniak, a first-year medical student at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, received the 17th Annual Marilyn J. Koering Award. The award is presented annually to the first-year medical student with the highest overall grade in the anatomical sciences.

The award honors Marilyn J. Koering, professor emerita of anatomy and cell biology, who taught more than 5,000 students during her 34-year career at GW. Koering continued teaching for more than two decades after being diagnosed with malignant melanoma and received the university's Distinguished Teaching Award in 1996. The award was presented during a ceremony attended by members of the anatomy department and Koering's sister, Susan Koering, who travels from Minneapolis each year to honor her sister's legacy.
