Statement From Afsaneh Beschloss, Rockefeller Foundation Trustee, on Passing of Martin Leibowitz

I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Martin Leibowitz.

Marty and I first met when I worked at the World Bank, though I already knew of him as a towering figure in the field of financial markets. He became a generous mentor throughout my career. When I founded the investment firm RockCreek, I was honored to welcome him to our Advisory Board.

Marty was also committed to serving others through philanthropy, including through a decade of service on The Rockefeller Foundation's Board of Trustees and his exceptional leadership of the Foundation's Investment Committee. When I became chair of that committee, he again proved a kind and supportive mentor, deeply invested in all of our success.

At every one of these opportunities to collaborate, I found Marty to be a remarkable friend, advisor, and advocate for the right way of doing things. I join Marty's friends, family, and colleagues in celebrating his remarkable life. My thoughts are with Marty's family and all those who loved him and learned from him.
