Today, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) released the following statement on the Republican budget bill.
"With this bill, Republicans are saying that they would rather spend over $70 billion to continue enabling ICE's campaign of violence instead of lowering prices for American families.
"Trump and Congressional Republicans are indifferent to the challenges facing Americans. While working families are struggling to make ends meet because of the rising cost of food, health care, child care, housing, and energy bills, Republicans in Congress are yet again breaking their promise to lower the high cost of living in America.
"Instead, they are falling in line behind President Trump's demands to continue ICE's campaign of violence while leaving the door open for Trump to bring back his slush fund. After the waves of violence that immigration agents have committed across the country and the brutal killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in broad daylight, Americans demanded reforms to ICE. But Republicans refuse to make any commonsense changes, like requiring judicial warrants, prohibiting masks, and mandating body cameras.
"House Democrats will keep fighting to make life more affordable, our communities safer, and to hold this administration accountable for its broken promises."
The legislation, which passed the Senate, now goes to the president.
