Tamboran honours co-founder David Falvey with new Territory STEM Scholarship
Tamboran Resources Corporation has announced the establishment of the Tamboran David Falvey Scholarship Program, honouring the legacy of Tamboran co-founder and distinguished geoscientist, the late Dr David Falvey.
The scholarship will provide A$10,000 per year for up to three years to support a Northern Territory student commencing university studies in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM).
Launching in October 2026, the inaugural recipient will commence university in the February 2027 academic year. A new recipient will then be selected each year.
The scholarship honours the life and legacy of Dr Falvey, whose scientific curiosity, foresight and deep understanding of Australia's geology helped shape Tamboran from its earliest days.
A lifelong learner with an adventurous spirit, Dave was known for asking bold questions, challenging conventional thinking and generously sharing his knowledge. His understanding of Australia's geology helped him recognise the enormous potential of the Beetaloo Basin and contributed to the foundations upon which Tamboran was built.
Tamboran Resources Chief Executive Officer Todd Abbott said the scholarship was a fitting way to recognise Dave's contribution while investing in the next generation of Territory talent.
"Dave's curiosity, technical knowledge and willingness to think differently were fundamental to Tamboran's beginnings, and that same spirit of curiosity and discovery is what we hope to encourage through this scholarship," Mr Abbott said.
"It is fitting that a scholarship focused on education, science and discovery should carry Dave's name. We hope it will support a new generation of young Territorians to pursue ambitious careers and contribute to the future of the Territory."
Dave's wife, Gill Falvey, said the scholarship was a meaningful way for her husband's legacy and passion for learning to continue.
"Dave never stopped learning. He was endlessly curious about the world and loved sharing that curiosity with others, particularly young people who were prepared to ask questions and explore new ideas," Mrs Falvey said.
"It means an enormous amount to our family to know that Dave's name will live on through this scholarship. I hope the students who carry his name will share some of that same curiosity and adventurous spirit, and that the scholarship gives them the confidence to follow wherever that curiosity takes them."
The scholarship will be open to eligible Northern Territory students commencing undergraduate studies in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, with disciplines ranging from geology and environmental science to computer science, engineering, statistics and applied mathematics.
