NSCAD workers strike after conciliation talks with university fail

Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, NSCAD, workers represented by CUPE 3912 are on the picket line today after negotiations over the group's first collective agreement failed late yesterday.

"CUPE members need the profound insecurity they face addressed," said Lachlan Sheldrick, vice president of CUPE 3912.

"The protections we are looking for are standard at all the other Halifax area universities."

Teaching assistants, research assistants, and independent course appointees at NSCAD voted to unionize in summer 2023. They have been without a collective agreement since their bargaining unit was certified.
