SLB Ranked Among Top 50 Companies for High-Impact AI Inventions

Global energy technology company SLB has been named to the Clarivate AI50, a new data-driven benchmark of organizations recognized for exceptional leadership in high-impact artificial intelligence (AI) inventions.

This list places SLB among an elite group of innovators leading the global AI ecosystem such as NVIDIA, Siemens and General Motors.

"Earning our place on the Clarivate AI50 highlights the industry-leading work our teams are doing to apply AI across the energy sector," says Demos Pafitis, SLB's Chief Technology Officer. "Agentic AI in particular delivers a shift in performance and SLB is focused on bringing these advanced capabilities to our customers. I'm delighted with this recognition, which is a result of our commitment to delivering technologies that shape the future of energy."

Deploying AI for energy at scale

The AI50 report, which assesses organizations by the volume and strength of their AI-related intellectual property, separates honorees into four distinct categories: enablers, specialists, catalysts, and deployers.

SLB, which is classified as a deployer, ranks among other leading brands for scaling high-strength AI across products, services and workflows.

The work behind the recognition

Shashi Menon, SLB's Vice President of Digital Technology Development, says the recognition shows the company's AI leadership goes far beyond theoretical.

"We've focused on turning AI into tangible operational advantage, winning on execution, risk control, safety, and explainability to create a repeatable, defensible advantage across the energy sector."

SLB's success in deploying AI tech proves itself out in the numbers. Since 2006, the company has been granted 212 AI-related patents, with 160 of those being issued in the last five years.

Patent filings are only part of the story, however, as the report places SLB among a small group of organizations that collectively generate nearly 14% of the world's high-strength AI inventions.

"We're doing the work to be the dominant AI player for the energy sector - and we will continue this momentum moving forward," adds Menon.

SLB and Agentic AI

Today, the digital age is progressing beyond algorithms toward systems modeled on biological thinking known as agentic AI.

In 2025, SLB introduced Tela™ agentic AI assistant - a suite of AI agents designed to integrate seamlessly within customer workflows. These intelligent agents do a wide variety of mission-critical tasks which help their human counterparts do their jobs more efficiently and shift focus to higher-value, more strategic work.

Looking ahead, SLB will continue building on its AI foundation to deploy solutions that drive the energy industry forward.
