Big Bend Hospice’s “Transitions Supportive Care” Program Undergoes Name Change to “Big Bend Palliative Care”

Big Bend Hospice announced today that its Transitions Supportive Care program will be renamed Big Bend Palliative Care, effective June 1, 2026.

The name change reflects a strategic effort to align the program more closely with the Big Bend Hospice organization and the broader Big Bend Health system while providing greater clarity about the services offered. While the name is changing, the care remains the same, delivered by the same experienced team with a continued focus on comfort, support, and quality of life.

"Big Bend Palliative Care provides the same compassionate support our community has come to know and trust," said Amanda Gustafson, Chief Operating Officer of Big Bend Hospice. "This change ensures our name clearly reflects both who we are and what we provide: specialized care that supports patients and families in their health care journey."

Big Bend Palliative Care focuses on improving the quality of life for individuals living with serious or chronic illness. Care is provided alongside curative treatments and includes symptom management, emotional support, care coordination, and guidance in navigating complex medical decisions.

The transition is part of a broader initiative to strengthen alignment across services under the Big Bend Health umbrella, making it easier for patients, families, and referral partners to understand and access a full continuum of care.

"Palliative care is about meeting people where they are, earlier with the support they need to live as fully and comfortably as possible," said Norman Pasley, Chief Nursing Officer at Big Bend Hospice. "By bringing this program under the Big Bend name, we are reinforcing that this care is part of the same trusted mission our community has relied on for more than 40 years."

Eligibility, referral processes, and care teams remain in place, and patients and partners may continue accessing services through the same program channels.

Through Big Bend Palliative Care, individuals and families can receive an extra layer of support, helping manage symptoms, reduce stress, and improve overall well-being throughout the course of serious illness.
