Media Advisory: Patriot Day 25th Anniversary Commemorative Ceremony
Patriot Day is observed each year on September 11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance. It honors the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives in the attacks of September 11, 2001, as well as those who have died in the years since from illnesses related to their response and recovery efforts.
Twenty-five years later, the San José Fire Department will gather with fellow first responders, partner agencies and members of the community to honor those who were lost and reflect on the extraordinary courage, sacrifice and service demonstrated by first responders and civilians on September 11, 2001.
The commemoration is intended not only to reflect on the events of that day, but also to honor the enduring commitment of those who continue to serve their communities and recognize the importance of remembrance, unity and service.
The procession and ceremony are free and open to the public. Temporary road closures will occur along the procession route. Some roadways are expected to reopen as early as 11 a.m., while streets near Fire Station 1 may remain impacted into the early afternoon. Roadways will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
