Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown has directed that all flags at City facilities be lowered to half-staff to honor the Spokane County Sheriff deputies who were shot while responding to a domestic violence call in Spangle.
"We are deeply saddened and troubled by the awful act of violence that happened in our community this week," Mayor Brown said. "The City of Spokane extends its deepest sympathies to the deputies' families, friends, and colleagues with the Spokane County Sheriff's Office."
Flags will remain lowered through the weekend. This order coincides with Governor Bob Ferguson's directive to lower flags in remembrance of Whitman County Sheriff Brett Meyers.
The City of Spokane encourages anyone with a flag outside of their home or business to join us in this recognition. For those who would like to help, the Sheriff Community Oriented Policing Effort is accepting donations to help with the deputies' funeral expenses. Any excess donations will go to the deputies' families.
