WILMINGTON, Del. - Delaware's Congresswoman Sarah McBride (D-Del.) released the following statement on State Representative Debra Heffernan's announcement that she will retire after 16 years of service:
"Representative Debra Heffernan has been a steady and effective leader in the State House, delivering for Delaware families year after year. She is a deeply engaged public servant who has consistently shown up for her constituents in the 6th District.
"She's been a tireless champion for working families, caregivers, and teachers. She has also been a close friend and a mentor - someone I could always count on to get the work done.
"When I was deciding who I wanted to sponsor my bills in the House, I went to Deb. When I introduced the Healthy Delaware Families Act in the State Senate, Deb led it in the House - and together, we got it across the finish line, delivering paid family and medical leave for our neighbors across Delaware.
"Today, I thank Deb for her years of service and partnership, and I wish her all the best as she begins her next chapter."
