Ciscomani Honors Fallen American Heroes Ahead of Gold Star Mother’s Day

Tucson, AZ - Ahead of Gold Star Mother's Day, Representative Juan Ciscomani is honoring the mothers and families who have endured the unimaginable loss of a loved one who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Gold Star Mother's Day is observed annually on the last Sunday of September, falling on September 27 this year. The day honors mothers who have lost a child while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces and was officially designated by Congress in 1936 before being proclaimed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

"Today we pause to honor and remember the Gold Star Mothers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. A mother should never have to get the devastating phone call telling her that her son or daughter has fallen while responding to the call to serve our country. And although we can never completely fathom the pain such a loss causes, we can ensure that these mothers know they are not carrying it by themselves," said Rep. Ciscomani. "For every hero who has died, there is a family which passes on their tradition of service. These mothers have shown incredible strength and resilience in facing an unimaginable loss. It is this strength that reminds us of the love which unites a family and of the courage required to carry on that love."

Ciscomani has made honoring America's fallen heroes and standing with their families a priority in Congress. He recently joined a number of colleagues to introduce H.Res. 1552, which recognizes September 20 through September 26, 2026, as "Gold Star Families Remembrance Week," ensuring the sacrifices of Gold Star Families are remembered and honored by communities nationwide. He encourages all Arizonans to reflect on the meaning of Gold Star Mother's Day and to reach out to Gold Star families in their communities, offering words of gratitude and acts of kindness.

"Their children gave their all in order to defend our freedoms," said Ciscomani. "There is no sacrifice a family can make for our country that is greater than this. And the same responsibility lies upon the rest of us, as to remember these American heroes who made the sacrifice possible. We must express our gratitude to these American heroes and to their families, a gratitude which can never actually, truly be repaid. Let us honor the lives they led, remember the sacrifices they made, and ensure that their legacies are kept alive."

Gold Star Families carry the legacy of America's fallen service members every day. During Gold Star Families Remembrance Week and on Gold Star Mother's Day, the nation pauses to honor their sacrifice and express its enduring gratitude to those who have given so much in defense of our freedoms. Representative Ciscomani remains committed to ensuring Gold Star Families are recognized, supported, and remembered not just on these solemn days, but throughout the year.
