This weekend, two Washburne Culinary and Hospitality Institute students competed in Les Dames d'Escoffier Chicago's inaugural Chicago Great Bakes Challenge-an exclusive showcase where ten exceptional women from local culinary schools competed for career-boosting prizes and experiences with industry leaders. The competition was judged live by some of Chicago's most esteemed baking and pastry professionals.
Student Jessica Manuel presented a truffle with hibiscus and lemon, while student Mercedes Fabela's roasted garlic and rosemary sourdough bread with a fig jam earned her a third-place win. She received $500 and an experience to create her own custom frozen novelty at Pretty Cool Ice Cream.
