CSPD K9 Gravely Injured while taking Barricaded Suspect into Custody

On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at approximately 10:43 a.m., officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to a report of a domestic violence protection order violation at a residence in the 7400 block of Gorgeted Quail Grove.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a suspect who barricaded himself inside the home. Tactical Enforcement Unit (TEU) and K9 personnel were deployed to assist in safely resolving the situation.

During the entry into the residence, K9 Roam and his handler, along with TEU officers, made contact with the suspect. During the confrontation, K9 Roam was stabbed multiple times. He was immediately transported to a local emergency veterinary facility, where he remains in critical condition and is undergoing surgery.

No officers were injured during the incident. The suspect was later struck with a chemical irritant and tased before he was able to be taken into custody. Due to the severity of the attack on K9 Roam, the CSPD Homicide Unit is leading the investigation into the attempted killing of a police service animal.
