National Preparedness Month tips: Essential response resources

September is National Preparedness Month - a nationwide campaign that reminds us that being ready for the unexpected is one of the best ways to protect ourselves, our loved ones and our campus community. Throughout September, the Department of Public Safety will highlight a different topic each week.

Last week, we focused on the importance of creating a personal plan. This week's focus builds on that foundation by highlighting campus tools and resources that provide in-the-moment instructions on emergency response procedures that should be taken. Being prepared means knowing where to find information when you need it most.

  • BroncoAlerts: These are essential alerts that are sent through text, email, and/or phone messages to the campus community. These are used for emergency situations when immediate communication is required.
  • RAVE Guardian App: This app provides quick access to campus safety procedures, offering a safety timer, the ability to connect directly with the Department of Public Safety via a call or text, anonymous tip reporting, and quick access to emergency procedures and safety resources.
  • Boise State Emergency Procedures Poster: These posters are strategically placed in classrooms and other spaces across campus. They provide clear, actionable instructions on what to do in various emergencies, from fire and active threats to medical incidents. Take a moment this week to find the poster in your frequently visited buildings.
  • Boise State DPS Emergency Management Website: The website is the central hub for Boise State emergency management information. Here you will find detailed information on resources, plans, and emergency procedures.
