P&R to host livestreamed Q&A on States Facebook page

Wednesday 10 June 2026

The Policy & Resources Committee will host a livestreamed video Q&A event on the States of Guernsey's Facebook page on Sunday 14th June, to answer questions from the community. While they are happy to take questions on any area of their committee's mandate, they are expecting perhaps the majority of questions to be on tax reform.

Deputies Lindsay de Sausmarez, Yvonne Burford and Andy Niles will host this Sunday's event, which takes place between 7pm-8.30pm and will be the first of two Facebook livestreams between now and the States debate on its 2026 Tax Reform Package.

The Committee is keen to engage directly with the community to address specific questions islanders have about its proposals.

Questions can be submitted ahead of and during the livestream via the comments section of the feed, and islanders are encouraged to 'like' the questions they want to be asked to help prioritise which are answered.

For anyone unable to watch live, the full recording will be published on https://www.gov.gg/taxreform after it has finished. More information about the 2026 Tax Reform Package is also available on that webpage.

The second Facebook live Q&A will be held on Tuesday 7th July and will be hosted by Deputies de Sausmarez, Charles Parkinson and Steve Falla.

Deputy de Sausmarez said:

'It's clear from online comments about tax reform that many people have legitimate questions. We hosted one of these events on Facebook in January and had good engagement and positive feedback, so we committed to holding another following the publication of our proposals. We've decided to hold two - one now and another a week or so before the States debate - to maximise islanders' opportunities to question us on the 2026 Tax Reform Package.'

Deputy Burford said:

'The Facebook livestream event will run the same way that it did in January, as it seemed to work well. So if you have a question on tax, or indeed on any other subject that relates to our committee's work, please submit it on the social media posts promoting the event, and/or you can hit the "like" button on questions that other people have already posted to help us prioritise those that most people want to ask about. We'll try and get through as many as we can, and really hope lots of people engage with this important topic.'

Deputy Niles said:

'The 2026 Tax Reform Package is the result of extensive work and careful consideration. It combines tax reform with defined savings measures to address Guernsey's structural deficit in a balanced and proportionate way, while protecting those who are least able to bear additional costs. These are important decisions that will help shape the island's future, so I would encourage islanders to engage with the debate, ask questions, and challenge us on the details. We welcome that scrutiny and look forward to discussing the proposals directly with the community.'
