Continuing his visit to Cyprus, President Gitanas Nausėda met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed Ukraine's progress towards European integration, the security situation, and bilateral cooperation.
The President emphasized that Ukraine's future lies in the European Union and that full membership by 2030 should remain a clear strategic goal. He stressed the need to advance the accession process as swiftly as possible and to open all negotiating chapters in the near future.
Gitanas Nausėda also pointed out that despite Russia's military aggression, Ukraine is making significant progress in implementing reforms and strengthening state institutions. The Lithuanian leader underscored the importance of continuing key reforms in the rule of law and the fight against corruption, which are essential for EU accession.
The meeting also covered defense cooperation between Lithuania and Ukraine, including joint defense industry projects, particularly in drone manufacturing. President Gitanas Nausėda highlighted the importance of mutually beneficial initiatives in strengthening both countries' security and defense capabilities.
The two leaders also discussed continued EU support for Ukraine, including the recently reached agreement to grant Ukraine a €90 billion loan.
