2026 G7 Leaders’ Summit: President Meloni meets with the President of the United Arab Emirates

As part of her participation in the G7 Summit in Evian, the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a bilateral meeting today with the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The two leaders discussed the situation in the region, also in light of the memorandum of understanding signed between Iran and the United States, agreeing on the need to support international efforts to ensure freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. President Meloni reaffirmed Italy's full support for the security of the United Arab Emirates and of all Gulf nations.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to express appreciation for the excellent state of bilateral relations, bringing to light the common will to strengthen them further, starting with the strategic sectors of defence and investments as well as within the framework of the fruitful cooperation already underway as part of the Mattei Plan for Africa.
