September is National Preparedness Month. Although Idaho Power keeps the lights on 99.9% of the time, the energy company reminds everyone to prepare for the unexpected. With fall weather around the corner and continued potential for late-summer storms, power outages are always possible.
Prepare by assembling a home emergency outage kit that includes flashlights, blankets, bottled water, canned food, and other essentials. Also ensure you know how to manually open and close garage doors and security gates, and have a plan for any unique needs, such as medical supplies or well water.
Download the company's free mobile app to view the outage map and track your power status. The outage map is also available at idahopower.com/outage.
If the power does go out, avoid opening fridge and freezer doors so your food stays cold longer.
